EC Henry has a concept of what the Neb B looked like in Imperial service before being captured and I think it and a Neb-B 2 version would be an amazing flavor addition to canon. What do you guys think about his idea?

Potential replacement for the "modified" Neb-B?

Nah. I don't support removing any legacy stuff. Instead, according to JeremyaFr, it might be possible for a single opt to contain multiple different 3DMs via flight group colors and I think this and a similar version of the Neb-B 2 would be a good case study in this technique. The only issue I remember him mentioning was hitboxes, as there is enough shape difference in these versions that might affect hitboxes.

Just do a separate opt and hook it over the modified.

Although hangar wise I prefer DTMs hangar setup to ECs, could just do the armor panels over the top of the existing model. If the hidden geometry feature can ever be implemented thatd solve the hitbox issues. Otherwise the armor plate would have to be modeled pretty close to the existing dimensions to use FG colors to have both versions on one model.

What's a little creative license on top of the creative license?

I'd prefer to be able to have all the designs in the same mission if I so choose, that's why I don't like OPT replacement.

Shouldn't this topic be in the Pilot Lounge?

Probably until someone is actively working on it. But I guess I jumped the gun.

I'd have the armor panels much closer to the actual shape, than the interpretation he did, especially in the front section - it'd seem strange that some front modules/space would be deliberately stripped in addition to the armor.

On the other side, do we have some sources stating that the model we saw in the movies was a stripped down version of an original imperial design?

There's no evidence of that. I'm not sold on his explanation either. We saw Imperial Nebulon-Bs in multiple Legends sources and they looked identical to the Rebel ones.

Furthermore, his explanation doesn't account for the fact that every Rebel Nebulon-B looks exactly the same.

That said, it is a glorious looking ship, albeit a bit to similar to the Starhawk for my liking.

I like to think the nebs seen in TIE fighter on the empire side could have easily been the one pictured above in a retcon sort of fashion. Considering how low res everything was and its flat textures, I'd buy it. But not as a replacement for the Neb B 2.

There were plenty of imperial nebs in x-wing as well. With the limited asset set back then, it got a disproportionate amount of use.

It's a hypothetical design, he isn't saying it actually happened.

It's a beautiful design. I am curious what the tie fightery "S-Foils" on the Imp Nebulon do though. Neat addition!

Looks like a model from FractalSponge.net. Looks great, but maybe call it a modern day Nebulon-C or something else. I still like the traditional Neb.-B design. Those imperial hangars in the above YT video are great examples of kind of hangars I want to design for this game engine, at least for TF.

Awesome Imperial-looking Neb B design. I also really appreciated EC Henry's explanation about the hangar where the TIE Fighter squadron is stored.
And the Alliance is always doing an efficient use of every resource: keep the craft with just the essential and reuse the rest for other purposes.

A Nebulon B frigate with 2 huge quarters of TIE Fighter solar panels in the rear.
An interesting design.

that craft would mass so much more that her bonus as capital-ship (speed and agility) would be totally lost imho. That could not be an issue in long range patrols, where you should need a more resilient ship to base non-ftl capable starfighters, by the way, and there would be too much costly to deploy a Strike-Class or a Ton-Falk Class. And as such, smaller as it is, that ship could insert more easyly in planetary gravity wells, deploying more rapidly stormtrooper transport for rapid raids. Imho is a Elite Squad design, on all of the hull. It could be described as a single modified ship, as much as a limited production for particulary services needs. By the way it is still very Imperial in all the looks she as. And she is very... sexy XD

Wow, that looks great! Not sure how happy the TIE pilots would feel knowing their capital ship just took off on them :D

It's fine, they usually come back after the patrol is done.

This is just my impression, but isn't that FRG Warsprite a little too Spartan to be of Imperial Design compared to EC Henry's model?

I remember it was FRG Warspite the Imperial Nebulon B frigate assigned to Operation Strike Fear (https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Warspite_(EF76_Nebulon-B_escort_frigate ).
