I have tried the "Rescue Uncle Antan" mission twice now, and it crashed after I destroyed the VSD (both times). Does that mission require the VSD to survive for some reason?

I had destroyed a VSD in an earlier mission without any problems, so I don't believe it's a hardware/software issue.

Is it VSD Condemnation? Because that's a bonus to be destroyed.
I'm not aware of any issues with this mission or more would report it.
Make sure in Video Options - Hardware - that MipMapping is turned on. Check all the options.

Also blow one up in a Skirmish. Just make it stationary and see if the same happens

Problem solved. I somehow got through the mission a third time, and no crash. But later the game crashed when a platform blew up. I widened my Forum search and found the answer here:

I just needed to turn Hardware mipmapping 'on'

Glad you were able to fix the issue, yeah MIP mapping is a bit of a weird one. The installer should force it to on, but it seems in some rare cases it doesn't do that.
