What TIE Fighter mission editor do you guys use and consider to be the best, and where can I get it? I would like to edit some missions now that I have converted the XWAU OPTs for use in TIE95. I remember in the good old days of TIE Fighter in DOS I used the TIE Mission Builder which was nice and simple, however now I'd prefer something Windows-based with a better GUI.

Legion
I'm not sure, but I suppose I could ask elsewhere (I have a few "connections"). I'm guessing the missions stayed in the DOS .tie format instead of being converted to XvT .tie format, b/c they kept the XW95 missions the same as the DOS game (.xwi and .brf files) as well. But, like I said, I'll ask around. :)
[ 28 February 2005: Message edited by: Wildstar, Blue 9 ]

Legion
I'll spare you the Google search and link you to Emperor's Hammer directly.
My "contact" said although he doesn't exactly remember, he was pretty sure the TIE95 mission files were a direct port from DOS TF, so unless EH has a Windows TIE mission editor, you're stuck using the DOS TIE Mission Builder, which, if you need to download it again, can be found on the Black Knights site (click the "Black Knights Squadron" link in the left frame, then on "Library of Files" in the main frame). If you need an emulator to run it, I recommend DOSBox.
[ 28 February 2005: Message edited by: Wildstar, Blue 9 ]

Thanks for the pointers but again I'm at a dead end. You are right in that the mission structure has not changed from the original TIE Fighter, so XvT mission editors won't work.
I find the Emperor's Hammer site utterly impenetrable – do they consider themselves too sophisticated to have a simple 'Downloads' link in the menu? I have Googled their site and come up news archives, tutorials and regulations but no actual editors to download.
Also the link to the TIE Mission Builder (which I probably still have knocking around on an old floppy somewhere) on Black Knights is dead.
Anyway, I definitely remember having a Windows-based mission editor back in the old days, but can anyone remember what it was?
PS Yes I have found TIEEdit on Darksaber's website but I find it a lot harder to use than the editor I remember.

Legion
I found a backdoor to EH's "Science Office", but the link to the file's location is dead (expired .nl domain, apparently). If you need TMB again, I know one of the old Black Knights on another board, so I'll ask him if he still has it sitting somewhere. Or you could join the TIE Corps and say you're interested in designing a TIE mission or two. ;)
[ 28 February 2005: Message edited by: Wildstar, Blue 9 ]

Jackpot! (I think) If you're looking for TIE Fighter Workshop, it's available on the Special Operations Squadron site (look for the link to the file in the "Utilities and Upgrades" section). It has a few other TIE-specific utilities, as well. :)
[ 28 February 2005: Message edited by: Wildstar, Blue 9 ]

The TIE Fighter Workshop I found a while ago (see my post to this thread before this one) is 32-bit, so it should have the nice GUI Legion is looking for.

hmmmm...
I was pretty sure I've used a Troy made TF mission editor... I guess I was wrong sorry, 'cause the one I've used was this TF Workshop.

OK, got the TF Workshop, thanks for that. Also, various TIE Fighter utilities can be found at http://www.xwing.net/hangar/util.html (these are the ones that used to be hosted on Happypuppy.com).
Second question: how do you import new ship models into TIE95? Basically, I have converted the Rebel Medium Transport to a TIE95-compatible OPT, but need to add the ship before I can use it in missions. Is there some way to get MXvTEd to work with TIE95?

I don't know but trying to convert XWAU models to TIE95 probably won't work that well.
[ 03 March 2005: Message edited by: Tony Knightcrawler ]

Legion
You might be better off getting XWA and AlliEd. This is because you might run into problems getting converted XWAU ships to work in TIE95 due to the higher polygon counts of some of the XWAU models being too much for the XvT graphics engine, which TIE95 uses. You can always make missions in AlliEd where you fly on the Imperial side, and that's a lot easier than adding complex models to a simpler game engine. ;)

For the most part XWAU OPTs work fine in TIE95, as discussed in this thread: http://www.xwaupgrade.com/ubbcgi/ultima ... =001038
I do own XWA, the only reason I want to do this is because I like playing TIE Fighter missions but would like to see the Rebel Medium Transport in some of them; however it isn't available as a craft to add into missions.
On DS's site is BinHexEdit and there is also a downloadable TIE Fighter 95 BinHexEdit module – unfortunately I have no idea how to use these, any suggestions?

I've been bit by the XvT bug, and reinstalled it form GOG.com, ignoring my original CDs in storage!

I installed XWA ships, which was somewhat of an improvement, and also some old, OLD custom missions, like "Escort the Cartagar".
It needed editing with TeD, which I did.
However, the missions do not display the performance ribbon once flown. Does anyone know how to enable that in TeD?

Yeah that post ist very old. At that time we still used the UBB forum instead of the phpBB so those links cannot work unfortunately
