I'm using the latest download from Beta Effects Version 2 by Blue Max's Version 2023-03-04. I followed the instructions in the readme and edited ddraw.cfg.

NVidia GTX 1080
i7 6700k
Latest graphics drivers
Here's the crash logs from event viewer:

Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: exception code e06d7363, exception address 769EE4B2

The effects look cool so if I can keep them that'd be great. The 5.5 patch works perfectly fine.

I had a similar crash after a similar duration when playing TFTC B4M1R. Also using the latest beta files.

It's not the effects themselves, since I have no problems with them. Have you restarted your computer lately?

Yep. Ran as admin, tried some compatibility options (since it seems to be memory related), etc.

There should be a crash dump file in you xwa directory. If you can upload that somewhere (they are quite large) maybe @JeremyaFr can find out what's going on

Does this work? Otherwise, I can do like dropbox, discord, facebook, whatever. LMK.

I am investigating this crash. I still don't know what's the root cause, but it appears to be something I changed in January 2023. Unfortunately. the crash dumps don't have a lot of useful information (for me); but if someone can get an easier/faster method to reproduce the crash, that will help a lot.

It seems to just randomly happen while playing after about 15 minutes or so (the mission doesn't matter). I haven't been able to narrow it down to a specific event or effect that causes it to happen unfortunately.

I think I found the problem. We're testing the fix now. I'll publish it as soon as I get confirmation -- probably within a couple of days.
EDIT: If you want to try it, here's the ddraw that has the fix:
