I’ve been trying to in the latest update, but my Eset NOD antivirus keeps treating hooks.DLL as a a suspicious file. What can I do so that hooks installs and won’t be ‘caught’?

What file exactly I triggering ESET? I don't remember any Hooks.dll file.
The hooks inject code into a process, not very differently than many malware families. This explains the false positive from some AV.

Have you tried putting an exception for the XWA folder in your AV?

There really isn't anything we can do here to help. As m0rgg said the hooks we have unfortunately use many of the same functionality that real malicious software does. The only thing you can do at this point is to define exceptions in your antivirus solution.
This might help:

But beware and be careful about adjusting any settings there. You don't want to exclude too much and endanger your system.

Thank you for the responses. The quick and dirty solution I found was to just briefly turn NOD 32 off, install the update, the turn NOD32 back on.

I have used this antivirus for 20 years (yikes?!) and never had a problem. I figured what hooks was doing was creating a false positive.
