game crashes after briefing

Hello everybody,
I'm new here. This is my first post.
I have a "simple" problem. I installed the original game from the original CDs on a Windows7 system. CPU is a AMD Ryzon, good NVIDIA graphic card .
The original version has the 2.02 update.
After replacing the alliance.exe file so game runs on a 64bit-system everything is fine. I can play the game.
When I install the xwau2020 with update 5 the game crashes after the screen where you can choose whether starting the simulator or a mission (okay I am allowed to choose the pilot).
Unfortunately, I get no information why the game crashes. PLEASE

it details how to get the crash info from windows. We really need that in order to be able to help you. I am kinda confused about you swapping the exe though. That should not be needed at all.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
Since the game from the original CD didn´t even start the installation process under 64-bit I look for a solution and found a modified .exe file that worked. I found some posts with the same problem...
Anyway this is the bug report. Hope that hepls ( me)

Hi silver-surfer42,

i also had the game on CD, but my CD was wrecked. So i decided to buy it on GOG (very cheap) - this version you can install on Windows 7 without problems and without any other exe.
Then you have to install the XWA Upgrade and after that you have to install the Mainpatch. I have the "original" GOG Version in Folder "XWA", copied the complete folder to "XWAUpgrade" and installed the XWAUpgrade and the mainpatch to the copied folder (so i have both versions on my machine ). Maybe you should also get the XWAHookSetup-Tool (here on downloads) and get the newest hooks. Especially if you have a problem with the joystick, the new hooks can solve this (in mainupdate there is an older version of the Hook-Joystick-ff.dll).
