Finally found some time to sit down and at least run the first few minutes of a fresh XWAU install.
The new artwork is stunning. Ace's room actually looks like the YT-1300's common area, Emkay's new design is great and kinda reminds me of something you'd see in the Dark Forces 2 cutscenes. There's a couple of issues I have with some of the UI elements, though. The briefing icons are far too flat-looking and are kind of difficult to look at. The detailed view hitches for a second or so as the ship loads in. This happens every time the page plays. (With a 5600X and a 3070 I have to think there's something else going on here.) The more detailed the ship is, the longer the pause. I didn't have this issue with the previous release... at least not after the first time. It's almost like the models aren't getting cached properly. The wireframe also fails to load and the scan effect looks like it's behind the ship, not over it as before.
Also, slight bug, but on the email/stats monitor screen there's at least one spot where there's a triangle grid. Little nitpicky but I saw it straight away.

You can't resize the HUD in flight.
You can bring it closer or further away and move it up and down.
You can see links here - https://forums.xwaupgrade.com/viewtopic.php?t=13904
The best options to play at I find are 1920x1080. Even with a 4k screen.
Otherwise things are too small.

I have dowloaded the XWAU 2024 installer but when I try to install, it gets to step 14 initialisation and then just crashes with no error message or report log (that I've found so far). It is a clean STEAM version of the game with the files revalidated prior to installing the mod. Any help?

Did you follow the steps for installing to a steam version of disabling the Steam updates and copying the installation to a folder that isn’t Steam's? And you don't have the installer in the same folder as the game?

Also do you have enough storage space on your Windows drive?bindibaji wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 7:07 pmI have dowloaded the XWAU 2024 installer but when I try to install, it gets to step 14 initialisation and then just crashes with no error message or report log (that I've found so far). I believe it should always show an error message but I think not enough space causes that issues

Done all that again, have 100+ gb of space on the drive but still the same issue I'm afraid. Even reinstalled/redownloaded everything from scratch

IIRC installation needs a *huge* amount of free space in your temp folder on the C drive. There is a way of setting your temp folder to another drive with more space, if you have one. Have a search around this forum - I had the same issue a few years ago, but don't quite recall how it was fixed.
